Image Compressor

Choose image quality and download a smaller image file.

Your files are processed in this browser. An internet connection may be needed to load QR/PDF libraries.

How to reduce image size

Choose a photo, move the quality slider and press Compress and Download. Lower quality gives a smaller file, and the new size is shown when the file is ready. Start at 75% and go lower only if the file is still too big.

Many forms, job portals and exam sites set a maximum size for a photo or signature. Compress the image, check the size shown, and repeat with a lower quality until it fits. The result is saved as a JPEG file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is compressed inside your browser and is never sent to a server.

Which quality should I pick?

75% keeps a photo looking good for most uses. Use 50% to 60% when you need a much smaller file. Below that, blur and blocky patches may appear.

Why did a PNG with a clear background get a white background?

The output is a JPEG, and JPEG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white.

Can the new file be bigger than the original?

It can if the original was already heavily compressed. In that case lower the quality, or keep the original.

Which image formats can I compress?

Common photo formats such as JPG and PNG. The result is saved as a JPG, which is usually much smaller.

How do I get an image under 100 KB or 200 KB?

Start at 75% quality and lower it step by step until the new size shown is below the limit your form asks for.

Will the picture look worse after compression?

A little quality is lost at lower settings. At 70-80% most photos look almost the same on screen, while the file is much smaller.
